CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 9, 2016) – OrthoCarolina, one of the nation’s largest orthopedic practices, has named Dr. Bruce Cohen Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Cohen, a well-recognized foot and ankle surgeon and innovative thinker with experience in organizational leadership will assume the post-July 1, 2016, when former CEO Dr. Dan Murrey takes the helm at Transformant Healthcare Solutions, a new company providing management services to private physician groups.

“I have great respect and appreciation for the work our staff and management do to serve our patients and our physicians every single day and I am looking forward to carrying on that dedication to excellence,” said Dr. Bruce Cohen, an orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon since 1997 and a physician with OrthoCarolina since its founding in 2005.

Dr. Cohen has served in a leadership capacity throughout his tenure with OrthoCarolina, including serving as vice-chairman of the Board of Directors and chair of the Operations Committee as OrthoCarolina established itself as a nationally-recognized model for patient success and value-based care.

An innovative thinker, Dr. Cohen has served as Fellowship Director of the OrthoCarolina Foot and Ankle Fellowship and subspecialty chief for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Carolinas
Medical Center, helping lead foot and ankle innovation and education. He also has acted as principal investigator in numerous active research projects through the OrthoCarolina Research Institute
(OCRI).
Dr. Cohen, who will continue his foot and ankle practice when he takes on his position of OrthoCarolina CEO, also is a respected member of the national foot and ankle research circles. A past member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Board of Directors, he currently chairs its Education Committee.
“Dr. Cohen brings a balance of experience as practicing physician and organizational leadership that positions him well to guide OrthoCarolina and its practices on its continued path of exceptional patient care and practice management” said Dr. Murrey, who recommended Dr. Cohen to the OrthoCarolina Executive Committee for the post. “He is known nationally as an innovator, educator and leader, and his commitment to bettering the Charlotte community and its orthopedic services will continue through his leadership of OrthoCarolina.”
