The Council for Nursing Excellence (CNE) recognizes Ranjan Maitra MD, as CaroMont Regional Medical Center’s newest recipient of the Physician Recognition by Nurses (PRN) Award. The award was presented at a surprise reception on June 26, 2015. Dr. Maitra was pinned by his father, Satybrata Maitra, MD, a retired orthopedic surgeon.
Dr. Maitra and his wife, Terra, have been married for 18 years and live in Gastonia, NC. They have two daughters, eleven year old Layne and eight year old London. Dr. Maitra’s hobbies include sports, playing golf, physical fitness activities, watching his daughters play soccer with Gaston United Soccer Club, gardening and landscaping. Dr. Maitra is an active member of his church and regularly serves as an usher. He thanks God everyday for the skills he has been blessed with and strives to be a kind and considerate patient advocate. Dr. Maitra attended Brown University, graduating with honors and earning his Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry in 1989. He went on to attend The University of Michigan Medical School, graduating with honors in 1993. Next, he attended the University of Kentucky for residency, serving one year in general surgery and four years in orthopedic surgery. He completed the University of Utah’s Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship in 2000.
Dr. Maitra opened the OrthoCarolina Gastonia office in 2000. As a new physician in a new town, Dr. Maitra and his wife made flyers and spent their evenings going door to door introducing Dr. Maitra as a new Sports Medicine Orthopedist in Gastonia. He was committed to making the practice successful and as the only surgeon; he was on call everyday for three years. He often visited schools, providing services to athletes and offered informative sports clinics to athletic directors, at no cost.
