1.) What led both of you to work at OrthoCarolina?
Julia: I’ve worked most of my career in healthcare and had numerous friends as well as my sister that worked at OrthoCarolina. I’ve always been impressed with the practice and was very acquainted with their culture and knew it would be a great place to work. So when the opportunity presented itself, I was interested right away.

Jan: My sister had worked her entire career in healthcare and had always said that I would make a great practice administrator. In 2008 when I was making a career change she helped me connect with some people that she had worked with in the past and that led me to OrthoCarolina in Monroe.

2.) What do both of you enjoy most about working at OrthoCarolina?
Julia: One of the primary reasons I love working in healthcare is the fact that in this field we are making a difference in people’s lives. OrthoCarolina is truly committed to that mission and it makes me very proud to be a part of that team. You leave the day with a sense of accomplishing something truly awesome!

3.) What is it like working in a company with your sister?
Julia: Well Jan is my best friend, so it’s great that we get this opportunity to see each other in a professional environment. It’s been a lot of fun seeing the confusion on the folks faces over the past year. One of my favorite stories is the time I introduced myself to Dr. Schiffern as Julie Lilley the new Controller, and he said “Yeh and I’m Dr. Bruce Cohen”. I just laughed and so did he, but he really did not know I was Jan’s twin sister until Jan told him the following week, “So I heard you met my sister.”
Jan: I love that we get to see each other every day. It’s funny to see people get confused on which one they are talking to. What is even funnier are the days we walk in and we have on practically the same outfit. We’ve joked several times that we need to check with each other before we head out to work.

4.) Do you guys ever end up working together?
Julia: We work together all the time. We are often in the same meetings and Accounting and Operations cross paths in so many ways.
Jan: We do get to work together quite a bit. Operations pretty much works with all the departments.

5.) What do both of you enjoy doing in your free time?
Julia: I love to cook so I’m always trying out something new. Jan and I love to cook together. It’s always a lot of fun. Jan is a neat freak, so she keeps everything very tidy and no dirty dishes by the time we are done.
Jan: I like to spend time working in my yard but together Julie and I both enjoy being at the beach, lake or anywhere there is water.

6.) What’s something about your sister that everyone might not know?
Julia: So Jan loves to rearrange things in her house. Whether its furniture being moved from room to room, or rearranging her cabinets. You can go over one week and go into a cabinet to get a glass and the next week you go into that same cabinet and there’s the plates. It drives me crazy…..but it’s who she is. Gotta love it!
Jan: At age of six if you asked Julie what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would tell you a “CPA." Little nerdy as most six year olds don’t even know what a CPA is.
