Biography
Dr. Briggs Ahearn is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine with a focus on minimally invasive shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle surgery.
Dr. Ahearn graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina completing his bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Emory University. Dr. Ahearn completed his Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction fellowship at the esteemed Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas in Greenville, South Carolina. There, he received extensive training in both minimally invasive and complex treatment of all sports-related injuries of the upper and lower extremity under the guidance of surgeons trained by renowned sports medicine and shoulder surgeon, Dr. Richard Hawkins. Throughout his training, Dr. Ahearn has published numerous peer-reviewed articles covering various topics in sports medicine and general orthopedics and has presented his work across the country.
Dr. Ahearn has extensive training and experience treating all individuals who want to maximize their potential to be active, from high performing athletes to individuals who simply want to keep up an active lifestyle. He has a special interest in treating injuries of the shoulder and knee utilizing the most up to date and cutting-edge procedures to maximize results and minimize downtime for his patients. He believes in a patient-centered approach, tailoring his treatments both operatively and non-operatively to the individual patient’s needs.
Dr. Ahearn has experience caring for athletes at all levels of play. He has been involved in the care and treatment of professional athletes from organizations such as the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, Colorado Rockies, and the Greenville Drive, a Boston Red Sox affiliate. He has provided sideline coverage at the collegiate level with Georgia Tech and North Greenville University in addition to several local high schools in Atlanta and the South Carolina Upstate.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Dr. Ahearn enjoys tennis, golf, fishing, water sports, Gamecock athletics, and spending time traveling with his wife, Ashley.
