Biography

Dr. Thompson is a Charlotte-native orthopedic surgeon who specializes in treating disorders of the spine. After graduating from Wake Forest University, he was drafted in the 4th round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Unfortunately, during his 2nd year, a career-ending injury cut his professional football career short. His experience as a patient with some of the country’s most distinguished surgeons uncovered his passion for medicine. Following his graduation from medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his orthopedic surgery residency at the renowned Mayo Clinic, Dr. Thompson completed his spine surgery fellowship at the prestigious Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, KY. Dr. Thompson has special clinical interests in treating traumatic and degenerative conditions in the spine and sacroiliac joint.

Many spine conditions can be managed without surgery, and Dr. Thompson’s clinical philosophy is to educate patients about their condition and exhaust non-operative, conservative treatments in these situations. When surgery is absolutely necessary, he is committed to offering the least invasive surgical options when possible.

Outside of work, Dr. Thompson spends his time with his wife and their 6 children; he enjoys church, hiking, fishing, family movie night, and Wake Forest/Packers football.
