Dr. Wattenbarger was responsible for the region’s first comprehensive pediatric orthopedic center. His practice focuses on treating children with acute injuries as well as special-needs children who need extensive orthopedic care.
Dr. Wattenbarger grew up in Littleton, CO and first became interested in orthopedics in the ninth grade after he broke his arm wrestling. Originally, he followed in the path of his grandfather, father and brother and became a petroleum engineer. After deciding that medicine was his calling, he attending the University of Texas Southwestern and completed his orthopedic surgery residence there. He completed his fellowship at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children where he was active in research on scoliosis and elbow fractures in children.
Dr. Wattenbarger has a clinical interest in scoliosis and spinal reconstruction surgery in children. He is also involved in the care of children with special needs such as cerebral palsy and myelomeningocele, and children with skeletal dysplasias and other congenital problems, including congenital amputations.
Dr. Wattenbarger also specializes in the treatment of clubfoot, development dysplasia of the hip, Perthes and other unusual childhood orthopedic problems.
He is actively involved in the training of orthopedic residents and continues to publish and lecture on both national and local stages.
