A broken arm at age six, and his desire to help people, were influential factors in Dr. Baker's decision to become a physician. With a background in sports and a special interest in human anatomy, orthopedics was a natural fit. Dr. Baker chose hand surgery as a sub-specialty because of the challenge and satisfaction of restoring function to hands that are injured or disabled.

A native of Arkansas, Dr. Baker completed medical school at the University of Arkansas before doing a surgical internship at the University of Kentucky. His orthopedic residency was at Carolinas Medical Center and his hand surgery fellowship was under the direction of Dr. Harold Kleinert in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Baker maintains his commitment and contribution to the highest standards of patient care through regular participation in continuing education activities.

Medical and non-medical mission trips have been meaningful experiences for Dr. Baker. He is an active member in his church, a leader in Boy Scouts and a Habitat for Humanity volunteer. Dr. Baker and his wife have two daughters and a son. He enjoys travel, hiking, fitness activities and time in the mountains of North Carolina.
