Dr. Theodore Belanger of OrthoCarolina, one of the nation’s most comprehensive orthopedic groups, has been inducted into the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as a fellow.
Dr. Belanger, a spine and scoliosis specialist in OrthoCarolina’s Spine Center and Gastonia and Huntersville offices, was inducted at the Academy’s annual meeting in San Francisco last month.
"Dr. Belanger’s membership is a testament to his dedication to his specialty. His advanced training reflects the breadth and depth of knowledge that he brings to the OrthoCarolina team of physicians,” said Dr. Robert McBride, president of OrthoCarolina.
The 34,000-member Academy is the largest medical association for musculoskeletal specialists, or those who treat muscle, bone and joint conditions. Its members have completed medical school in addition to at least five years of specialty study in orthopedics in an accredited residency program. They also must have passed a comprehensive oral and written exam and be certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Belanger received his bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin. He completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies and his fellowship at the University Hospital Spine Institute, Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
