Aligned for Excellence
In 2005, Charlotte Orthopedic Specialists and Miller Orthopedic Clinic merged to form Ortho Carolina because of a shared desire to create one of the nation’s most comprehensive practices and to offer area residents unmatched access to world-class care. Today, OrthoCarolina serves as home to the region’s leading orthopedic specialists, many of whom are internationally recognized experts in orthopedic research and education. Its staff of more than 80 physicians and 800 employees offers unmatched specialty orthopedic care, and as a private practice OrthoCarolina has maintained close relationships with all of the region’s hospitals to best serve patient preferences and needs. “We promise our patients excellence in orthopedic care,” said Dan Murrey, MD, chief executive officer. “But that pledge isn’t just about accurate and effective diagnosis and treatment. It also includes a unique, personalized approach to a continuum of orthopedic care that patients can’t find anywhere else in this region.”
Simple, convenient access
As OrthoCarolina prepares to mark its fifth anniversary, physicians, administrators and staff have a new shared desire — to reaffirm the practice’s commitment to its patients and the communities it serves by providing simple, convenient access to its services at newly redesigned offices throughout the region. “For many patients, a trip to the doctor’s office induces a good bit of stress and anxiety — not only related to the ailment for which they’re seeking treatment, but also because they’re unfamiliar with where they’re going, can’t find parking, feel cramped or uncomfortable in the waiting area or exam room, and so on,” said Blair Primis, marketing director. “These are the types of inconveniences we took into consideration when planning the new spaces, resulting in a more calming, patient-friendly environment.”
The massive redesign began Uptown, where OrthoCarolina consolidated the main offices for each of its seven specialty centers onto one convenient, 100,000-square-foot central campus.
1915 Randolph Rd.: The newly remodeled
Hand,
Pediatrics,
Shoulder & Elbow and
Sports Medicine centers are all in one location and the expanded Sports Performance Center now offers services at both the Ballantyne and Uptown locations.
2001 Randolph Rd.: The
Spine Center and
Orthopedic Urgent Care are located directly next door to the 1915 Randolph Road building.
250 N. Caswell St. (CMC-Mercy Hospital): The
Foot & Ankle Institute and
Hip & Knee Center are now situated immediately behind the Randolph Road facilities.
3541 Randolph Rd.: OrthoCarolina has expanded its
physical therapy services to include a new location that provides aquatic therapy.
Comfort and ease
The entire Uptown campus was designed with patient comfort and ease in mind. “We’ve made a significant effort to ensure our newly consolidated uptown campus is well-marked and easy to find,” said Primis. “But beyond that, once inside patients will find we’ve incorporated larger exam rooms as well as brighter, more comfortable waiting areas.” Similar changes are under way at a number of OrthoCarolina offices elsewhere in the Charlotte region, including Pineville, Matthews, University and Mooresville, and are expected to be complete by the spring of 2010. In the end, physicians say, the newly redesigned spaces will allow them to practice even better medicine. “We set out five years ago to offer patients the very best in all aspects of orthopedics — from diagnosis and treatment to physical therapy and rehabilitation to sports performance and urgent care,” said Charlie Furr, chief operating officer. “The renovation and consolidation project has been a tremendous undertaking, but it is, in a sense, the last piece of the puzzle.” OrthoCarolina and the legacy practices that came before it have been the Charlotte region’s most trusted source of orthopedic diagnosis, techniques and treatment for more than 75 years. In the months ahead, physicians, administrators and staff hope to also make that name synonymous with providing the very best patient-centered experience.
